KP Singh Yadav had defeated Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha election
BHOPAL: A Rajya Sabha seat of Madhya Pradesh will get vacated when the special 9-day session of the 18th Lok Sabha starts on Monday. Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia who was elected to the Rajya Sabha on the BJP’s nomination on June 19, 2020 will resign his RS membership since he has been elected to the Lok Sabha from his native seat of Guna. He still has two years left of the term.
There is already speculation in the political circles in Madhya Pradesh as to who will sent to the Upper House in Scindia’s place.
Would it be a BJP functionary from the Gwalior-Chambal region? Or could it be a party stalwart who presently has no position in either the state or the Union govt?
The grapevine claims that former home minister Narottam Mishra could be one such name that the party could discuss.
Though Narottam Mishra lost the assembly election from Datia seat, he continued to play an important role in the organisation.
Mishra was made in-charge of the cell that brought new membership into the state BJP. And he succeeded in getting 2.5 lakh Congress workers and senior functionaries to cross-over to the BJP in the four months before the Lok Sabha polls.
Another name is KP Singh Yadav, the man who had defeated Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
KP Singh Yadav though the winner of the 2019 Parliamentary election, was not fielded from Guna in 2024. Scindia who was in the Rajya Sabha for four years, was given the ticket from his old Lok Sabha seat he won four times before he lost to KP Singh Yadav.

Addressing an election campaign rally in Guna on April 26, Union home minister Amit Shah had given an inkling that no one needs to be concerned about KP Singh Yadav’s “political future”. Shah said that the BJP would give Yadav a big responsibility.
Union home minister Shah’s promise is making many in the political circles think that maybe there would be a clean swap between Scindia and Yadav. While Scindia goes to the Lok Sabha, Yadav would take the Union minister’s place in the Rajya Sabha.
However, there is a major hurdle for BJP’s aspirants from Madhya Pradesh.
Speaking to TOI, a senior state unit office-bearer said, “We have a govt in Madhya Pradesh with 163 MLAs, all 29 Lok Sabha MPs from the state are from the BJP and there are five Union ministers from here. There are states where we have very little representation like Tamil Nadu, Telangana. Plus, we have our former Union ministers who lost like Smriti Irani and Arjun Munda. It is too soon to predict who will be sent to the Rajya Sabha in place of Jyotiraditya Scindia. And chances are that the seat could be used to give representation to a state where the BJP does not have many MPs.”
