Not flour, only wheat to be given under 'Ghar Ghar ration scheme': Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Saturday that the government will provide only wheat to beneficiaries of the "Ghar Ghar ration scheme" rather than a choice of wheat or flour. The state had previously decided to offer either wheat or flour to the beneficiaries.
Speaking at a state-level event commemorating the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Mann said he did not want to take any decision which was not in the interest of the people.

"We will now give wheat and not 'atta' (flour) for four months," he said, specifying that wheat would be distributed from July to October this year. Mann said, "The public says it wants wheat only. We will give it. The regime runs as per the wishes of the people."
The "Ghar Ghar ration scheme" currently has approximately 1.54 crore beneficiaries in Punjab.
In addition to changes to the ration scheme, Mann highlighted the government's forthcoming recruitment drive. "The state government will soon recruit 10,000 personnel for the Punjab Police and a notification in this matter has already been issued."
Mann expressed the government's commitment to reversing migration trends by empowering the state's youth. He criticized opposition parties, suggesting they were misguided about the stability of his administration.

"Rival political parties are building castles in the air by claiming that his government was unstable and would fall soon. The AAP government will complete its tenure with the support of the people," Mann asserted.
Mann, while addressing development concerns, indicated his intent not to seek central funds for projects. "The state will generate its own resources," he said, and accused the BJP-led Centre of biased treatment because Punjab did not elect any BJP representatives in the Lok Sabha polls.
Mann concluded by connecting his government's policies with the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. His administration aims to follow Maharaja Ranjit Singh's footsteps to "ensure the well-being of every strata of society."
‘AAP acknowledged ration scheme blunder’
Partap Singh Bajwa, the leader of opposition in Punjab, declared on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party government had acknowledged and corrected an error by discontinuing its 'Ghar Ghar Ration' scheme. According to Bajwa, the beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act will now receive whole wheat at the ration depots, indicating that better judgment has prevailed.
Bajwa stated: "I was critical of CM Bhagwant Mann's govt since Sept 2022 when it de-cided to give them 'atta' at the doorstep instead of whole wheat at the ration depots. Ghar Ghar Ration was a scheme to please the corporate houses and render thousands of depot holders jobless."
The leader of opposition also pointed out that this was not the first instance of the AAP government reversing its decision. Bajwa mentioned that last year, the government had prematurely dissolved the panchayats but revoked the decision after the intervention of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
