Bathinda: As the southwest monsoon advanced to more parts of
Punjab and
Haryana on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert warning of heavy to very heavy
rain in both states from June 30 to July 2. A similar alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh till July 3.
However, till 8.30am on Saturday Punjab received 67% deficient rain, recording only 1.2mm rainfall against normal of 3.5mm.
Similarly, Haryana was 61% rain deficient, witnessing only 1mm rain against a normal of 2.6mm. Himachal Pradesh was 35% rain deficient getting 3.5mm rain against normal of 5.4mm.
In Punjab, only Sangrur and Nawanshahr got excess rain. Nawanshahr received 66mm and Balachaur 57.5mm rainfall while Rohtak in Haryana recorded 45mm rainfall.
With a rise of 0.5°C in average maximum temperature in Punjab, mercury remained near normal in the state. The highest maximum temperature of 42.5 °C was recorded in the state at Gurdaspur.
With rise of 1.5°C in average maximum temperature in Haryana, the temperature was near normal in the state. The highest maximum temperature of 41.2 °C was recorded in the state at Sirsa.
Chandigarh logged a maximum of 39.2°C.
