TN assembly pays homage to hooch victims, ex-MLAs and Kuwait fire victims
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu legislative assembly paid homage to victims of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy on the first day of the session on Thursday, besides victims of the Kuwait fire accident. Obituary references were made for former MLAs, including Vikravandi MLA N Pugazhendi, whose death caused the July 10 by-election.
Speaker M Appavu commenced the session by reading out names of departed MLAs with obituary remarks.
Tributes were paid to 18 former MLAs, including Pugazhendi. A minute’s silence was observed by members in the hall. The assembly session would go on until June 29.
The speaker said Kallakurichi hooch tragedy was unfortunate and govt was taking all measures to contain the menace. He said govt had taken steps to help those undergoing treatment.
He read out the resolution to condole Kuwait fire accident victims. Seven people from Tamil Nadu died in the fire that broke out in a building in Mangaf in Kuwait.
