The station is likely to open between 2025 and 2028
CHENNAI: Metrorail tunnelling in Royapettah, one of the most congested localities in the core city, may commence in Aug. Workers have started installing a tunnel-boring machine into a shaft built in West Cott Road, Royapettah. The machine will build a tunnel from Royapettah metro to Dr Radhakrishnan Salai metro station. The locality will be linked in the 45.8km corridor-3 of phase-2 from Madhavaram Milk Colony in the north to Siruseri Sipcot in the south.

“It will take a month to complete installation of the tunnel-boring machine. We may start tunnelling in Aug,” an official said.
In Jan, CMRL had demolished a portion of the flyover across Dr Radhakrishnan Salai-Royapettah to make way for the construction of twin tunnels and a station.
Earlier, CMRL managing director M A Siddique said the 116.1km phase-2 would be opened for the public in stages from 2025 to 2028.
Engineers at the site said construction on the busy West Cott Road- Peter’s Road junction has been a challenge due to heavy traffic movement. The work was slowing down traffic as a major portion of the road has been barricaded. The station is planned below the junction, with YMCA grounds and Govt Royapettah Hospital on either side.
