Salem: A man and his minor son died while the wife and another son suffered injuries after their bike rammed a parked truck near Perumpallam on the Mettur-Erode state highway on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as K Rajagopal, 39, and his son Van Mugilan, 8, of Mettur. Rajagopal was employed at the Mettur thermal power plant while his son was a Class III student.
His wife Gowri, 35, and other son Magilavan, 11, escaped with injuries.
Police said the accident took place when the
family were travelling to Sivagiri in Erode district to attend the retirement celebration of Gowri’s father. Mettur police, who were alerted of the incident, took the family to the government hospital in Mettur for treatment. “Van Mugilan died on the way to the hospital while Rajagopal succumbed to injuries while being shifted to the Salem government Mohan Kumaramangalam medical college and hospital,” a police officer said. He added that Gowri and Magilavan are under treatment at the Mettur GH.
Mettur police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the cause of the accident.
