Four-member gang arrested for stealing cars
Coimbatore: The city police arrested four people on Saturday for stealing an SUV and two cars from Selvapuram in March 2024.
The accused changed the red SUV into black colour before selling it. They also sold a car to a Karumbukadai-based man for Rs 1.5 lakh. Police recovered all three stolen vehicles from them.
The arrested people were identified as H Azharuddin, 29, from Apple Garden at Karumbukadai; S Mohammed Yasir, 28, from Tippu Nagar First Street at Karumbukadai; Mohammed Yusuf, 28, from Karumbukadai; and P John Sundar, 50, from Gounder Mills near Thudiyalur.

The accused stole the SUV from South Housing Unit at Selvapuram around 7pm on March 16, 2024. The SUV belonged to M Muhamed Athnan, 21, from Thrissur. It was stolen when Athan parked the vehicle near a mosque and went to offer prayers. When he returned from the prayer, Athan found his car missing. He lodged a complaint with the Selvapuram investigation wing police.
On March 21, 2024, two cars parked near a bakery at Selvapuram were stolen. The cars belong to H Navas, 43, from Thrissur, and his brother.
Police said the gang changed the colours of the stolen vehicles and registration number plates. They removed the GPS devices from the vehicles and installed new devices before selling the vehicles.
Later, they informed the respective car owners about the whereabouts of the vehicle and would receive more than Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh for giving information about the cars.
The mastermind of the gang is still absconding.
