Man arrested for abetting suicide of wife near Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Thondamuthur police in Coimbatore district arrested a man on Monday night for abetting the suicide of his wife.
The arrested man has been identified as S Prasanth, 28, of Palanisamy Nagar at Vedapatti.
Prasanth was in love with Chithradevi, 28, daughter of Selvaraj of Malligai Nagar at Kaliyannanpudur while they were pursuing undergraduate courses.

She borrowed Rs 5 lakh from a self-help group (SHG) and handed over the amount to Prasanth two years ago. Chitradevi started asking Prasanth to marry her.
After getting permission from his parents, Prasanth married her on May 29. The couple were residing with his parents at Bommanampalayam near Vadavalli.
They moved to Palanisamy Nagar at Vedapatti where they lived in house for 13 days. Prasanth often fought with his wife for forcing him to leave his parents’ home.
He mostly stayed at his parent’s home while Chitradevi stayed alone. She came to know that her husband developed an extramarital affair with another woman. She questioned her husband.

On Sunday evening, he fought with his wife and left the house.
Around 8am on Monday, her father-in-law went to her house to give her food and found her dead, hanging from an iron angle with a shawl. He informed his son and her parents over the phone.
Thondamuthur police rushed to the place and sent the dead body to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
Police registered a case of suicide.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother S Sarathamani, 49, lodged a complaint with police. Police altered the section and booked Prasanth for abetting the suicide of his wife.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
