Premalatha condemns minister’s ‘kick’ remark
Coimbatore: DMDK general secretary Premalatha Vijayakant said the state govt’s promise of a stricter punishment for bootleggers was an eyewash. Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore on Sunday, she said the prohibition minister S Muthusamy should take responsibility for the Kallakurichi tragedy and resign.
Premalatha said she strongly condemned the remarks of DMK general secretary Duraimurugan in the state assembly that people resort to hooch liquor because they find liquor sold at Tasmac outlets lacks ‘kick.’ A senior minister speaking in such a manner in the state assembly is highly condemnable, she said.

“So, a minister admits that Tasmac liquor is substandard. Then, it’s the govt that forces people towards illicit liquor. This statement of a senior minister is enough to dismiss the govt,” Premalatha said.
When the govt can set up Tasmac outlets everywhere, why cannot they set up police stations all over to control bootlegging, she asked.
“People say it’s with the ruling party’s support that illicit liquor is being brewed,” she alleged.
