Cuttack: Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will start a drive to collect electronic waste from across all households here from the second week of July.
“In order to facilitate the recycling of e-waste, we have started this initiative. The drive will take place in 59 wards across the city,” CMC commissioner Bijay Dash said.
A team has been formed which will carry out the drive.
“Dedicated vehicles have been assigned for collection of e-waste,” Dash added.
From the second week of July, CMC officials will visit the wards and collect e-waste from each house and a report will be prepared regarding the amount collected.
Officials said many people are throwing or dumping e-waste in open spaces, which leads to environmental hazard. “Toxic materials used in these devices, such as lead, cadmium, mercury and bromine flame retardants, can have detrimental effects on the environment and human health if not disposed of properly,” Dash added.
