Cuttack civic body to barricade 19km of open drains
Cuttack: Five days after a nine-year-old boy was swept away by rainwater in an open drain in Bhubaneswar, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) said on Saturday it will install barricades across open drains. CMC has identified 19 km of open drainage channels that require to be barricaded.
“A team was formed by CMC to identify open drains across the city. The team visited various spots to verify the vulnerable stretches and subsequently submitted a report,” said CMC commissioner Bijay Dash.
He said the survey revealed 19 km of open drainage channels at various locations that need to be barricaded using grills, iron mesh and bamboo.TNN
