Cuttack: Members of the National Backward Class Association met chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum demanding caste-based census in the state.
Pradeep Behera, president of the Odisha chapter of the association, said, “The previous BJD govt had an online portal for registration of only OBCs, which could not be accessed by several eligible people as they didn’t have access to computers.
“ We have demanded a door-to-door manual caste census so there is transparency on the exact number of backward classes in the state,” said Behera. “The real beneficiaries of the govt schemes will be identified properly and backward classes will be segregated accordingly,” he added.TNN
