OCL set to kick off at Barabati with 6 teams aiming for title
Cuttack: Barabati Stadium is all set to host the Odisha Cricket League (OCL) from Sunday being organised for thew first time by Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) here. A total of six teams will participate in the leage and 33 T20 matches will be played at the venue.
“Preparation for the matches is over. Barabati stadium has been decked up with matches scheduled between June 30 to July 17.
Atleast three matches will be played every day,” said OCA secretary, Sanjay Behera.
The six teams to vie for the league title are Odisha Lions, Odisha Tigers, Odisha Jaguars, Odisha Pumas, Odisha Panthers and Odisha Cheetahs. While Shantanu Mishra will lead the Odisha Jaguars, former Odisha captain Biplab Smantray will be the captain of Odisha Cheetahs.
“As the T20 match format has become more popular in the game of cricket, we want more players from Odisha to shine in this format and play for India. The OCA selection committee has chosen the promising players in the state through different cricket camps and matches,” added Behera.
OCA will provide green caps for maximum wicket takers and red cap for highest run scorers in the series. The state association will also be implementing DRS and the Impact Player rules in this league, just like the Indian Premier League.
