ROORKEE: Manglaur police arrested three persons in connection with the murder case of a 58-year-old man from Saharanpur.
The body of the victim, Puran Prakash, was recovered from the Narsan area on Sunday after which his son Ankit Kumar lodged a police complaint against six persons, including the three held.
The complainant had said that his brother eloped with the sister of one of the accused, after which they thrashed his father with wooden sticks in revenge, killing him.
Police arrested the woman’s brothers Rajan, Hari Om, and cousin Satveer Guddu. "We will soon arrest the remaining accused involved in the crime," said SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal.
According to the police, Puran's son Gopi was in a relationship with a woman from Tanshipur village for a couple of years. The woman's family opposed the relationship, but However, Gopi eloped with the girl from her home and married her on Saturday.
Infuriated, the woman's family attacked Puran and his relative Manjeet. Puran died on the spot due to his injuries, while Manjeet was unconscious when the police arrived. Manjeet is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital in Roorkee.
