Two men arrested for attacking police officer in Kerala

Vanchiyoor police arrested two men for attacking a sub-inspector during a routine patrolling. The men were arrested at Palkulangara for consuming alcohol in public, leading to the assault on the officer.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vanchiyoor police arrested two men for attacking the sub-inspector of the station for questioning them for consuming alcohol in public at Palkulangara.
The cop was attacked by a three-member gang and the third accused is still absconding.
The arrested has been identified by police as Sachin, 20, of Kunnumpuram near Vanchiyoor and Ajith Kumar, 22, of Vallakadavu.
They were arrested on Friday morning from an isolated thicket where they were hiding after the incident.
The accused attacked sub-inspector Sujith, 49, who was on a routine patrolling with home guard Shibu near Karimbatty Devi temple. The officer questioned them for consuming alcohol in public and it irked the accused. The accused first verbally assaulted the officer and later proceeded to assault him. They also kicked the officer, who fell down in the attack, on the head and chest several times. The home guard was also attacked when he tried to rescue the cop. The accused escaped from the spot before more police officers reached the spot.
The victim was taken to the medical college hospital and later discharged.
The arrested have been remanded after being produced before a court on charges under sections of IPC 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, 332 for voluntarily causing hurt to deter the duty of a public servant, 341 for wrongful restraint, 353 for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty, 506 for criminal intimidation and 294-b for abusing and also under section 117 (e) of KP Act-2011.
