9 months more to complete sewer line, green building works
Dehradun: With the Centre granting another extension to the Smart City project on Saturday, the local administration has breathed a sigh of relief as a few projects remain incomplete, initially scheduled for completion by the end of June. This marks the third extension for the project nationwide.
In Dehradun, out of the 22 projects under this initiative, 20 have been completed.
However, two crucial projects, the sewer line and green buildings, are pending.
The Centre has given the extension till March 31, 2025. Smart City CEO and DM Sonika said, “This extension will help in completing the project by the end of the current financial year.” The Centre, in its letter to the chief secretary and CEO of Smart Cities, stressed that the states should start working on the remaining fund request proposals at the earliest as the remaining funds will be released only by the end of Sept on a first-come, first-serve basis.
According to administrative sources, the Rs 206 crore green building project will benefit the most as it has been pending for two years, with project progress at only 8%. Due to a lack of NOC and required land, the project, launched in Dec 2021, has faced significant delays. Similarly, the sewerage project is still incomplete, with 70% progress made. Despite the city being taken up under the Smart City in 2017, the work started only in De 2022.
