Dr Tara Arya takes charge as health dept’s director general
Dehradun: Dr Tara Arya has been appointed as the director general of Uttarakhand’s Department of Medical Health and Family Welfare. She took over on Monday after Dr Vinita Shah retired the previous day.
After assuming office, Dr Arya told TOI, “My vision is to provide quality healthcare with transparency in the healthcare system.” She noted that a key challenge for the state’s healthcare system is retaining specialist doctors and said the department will continue to offer attractive packages to them.
She added that hospital infrastructure and equipment will also be improved, especially in remote areas. She also emphasised the importance of training and capacity building to strengthen the department. Dr Arya, a gynaecologist with 33 years of experience, has received awards including the APJ Abdul Kalam Award for Health Services and the National Quality Achievement Award. Shivani Azad
