Child rape-murder case: HC reviews death sentence
Dehradun: HC on Monday reviewed a case in which a lower court sentenced Ram Tirath Yadav, a resident of Sultanpur, UP, to capital punishment for abducting, sexually assaulting, and brutally murdering a 9-year-old girl in Dec 2022. The final hearing is scheduled for July 9.
The incident took place on Dec 20, 2022, when the girl’s body was found in a residence in Rishikul Colony, Haridwar.
The police arrested the house owner, Rajiv Kumar, and his nephew, Ram Tirath Yadav. The autopsy report confirmed the girl was sexually violated and then asphyxiated. Based on the victim’s father’s complaint, a case was registered against the three accused. The lower court also fined Ram Tirath Yadav (26) Rs 1.30 lakh and sentenced his uncle, Rajiv Kumar, who is in his 40s, to five years of jail with a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
