Bhavina, Parul, Sonal to compete for Gujarat in Khelo India Para Games
New Delhi: At the upcoming Khelo India Para Games, Gujarat will field a strong contingent of 95 para-athletes which will also include Tokyo Paralympics icons Bhavina Patel, Sonal Patel and Parul Parmar. Top names like Amrut Panchal, Rachana Patel and Bhavna Chaudhary will also participate in the upcoming prestigious event. In Para Sports, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that Gujarat has been the pioneer.
About 95 athletes have registered in the Khelo India Para Games which will commence from December 10, 2023.
Ashwini-Tanisha pair climbs four spots to world No. 28
: Indian women’s doubles pair, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, jumped four places to reach world number 28 in the latest BWF rankings. Ashwini, 36, and her 20-year-old partner Tanisha, who started playing together only in January this year, finished runners-up at the Syed Modi International Super 300 tournament in Lucknow on Sunday. The World Athletics Elite Label Road Race, the Kolkata 25K, will be headlined by 10K world record-holder Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw in the women’s category and two-time world championship silver medallist Kenyan Daniel Simiyu Ebenyo in the men’s category. The current event record, in the Men’s category, stands in the name of Kenya’s Leonard Barsoton with a timing of 1:12:49 and the Women’s record in the name of Bahrain’s Desi Jisa with a timing of 1:21:04. Making her debut at the 25K here, 10K world record holder (29:14 in 2022) Yehualaw is the leading lady to watch among the women runners.PCB gives Haris Rauf green light for short Big Bash stint:
Pakistan’s cricket board (PCB) have given fast bowler Haris Rauf permission to make a limited appearance in Australia’s Big Bash League, ending a standoff with the player. White-ball specialist Rauf incurred the PCB’s wrath after turning down an offer to be part of the squad for a three-test series in Australia beginning in Perth on Dec. 14. Haris came in for criticism from chief selector Wahab Riaz, while team director Mohammad Hafeez told players they must put national team duty above franchise cricket. Rauf, fellow fast bowler Zaman Khan and leg-spinner Usama Mir have been cleared to play in the Big Bash competition until Dec. 28, the board said in a statement on Monday. “The PCB understands that this decision is in the best interests of all the stakeholders involved while balancing the importance of game time with workload management,” it added.
Sprinter who ran solo in Delhi athletics meet fails dope test
:Sprinter Lalit Kumar, who ran solo in the 100m final at the Delhi Athletics Championships in September after seven other competitors pulled out on hearing the presence of NADA officials, has failed a dope test, according to officials.
