NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday took jailed gangsters Naveen Bali and Neeraj Bawana into custody in connection with the probe into the sensational shooting incident that took place at the Burger King outlet in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden. Both the gangsters, who were lodged in high security cells of Tihar, were mentioned in the Instagram post by US-based fugitive Himanshu Bhau in which he claimed responsibility for the killing of a man named Aman Joon.

While some cops will carry out a fishing exercise using the two incarcerated gangsters, another set of investigators are focusing on tracing the girl, Anu, who had honeytrapped Joon and brought him to the outlet on Tuesday night. Police suspect that she along with the shooters — identified as Ashish and Vicky — may be trying to flee abroad with Bhau’s help.
PROBE

Technical investigation by the west district police has also revealed that Anu had made a fake account in the name of Preeti to befriend Joon on Instagram. She was running at least 15 accounts — all in different names — on the social media app, cops have found. This also suggests that she may be trapping other targets on Bhau’s behest. In his statement on Instagram, Bhau had claimed that there were more targets in queue and they would be eliminated one by one.

The probe has revealed that Anu had returned to her paying guest accommodation in northwest Delhi barely an hour after the murder and vacated it. She was caught on CCTV cameras at multiple locations. Tracing her footprints, the cops on Wednesday night landed up at her PG in Mukherjee Nagar area but found her missing. During inquiry, the PG owner revealed that she claimed she had to leave immediately due to a family emergency and that her security deposit may be given to a friend.

Anu’s surname is Dhankad but she goes by her first name only. Her family had filed a habeas corpus writ in court after she went missing. It later turned out that she had joined Bhau’s syndicate. In the CCTV footage from inside the outlet that surfaced on Thursday, Anu is seen fiddling with Joon’s phone while the two shooters place themselves on a table exactly behind them. One of the shooters suddenly gets up and starts firing from behind and Joon is seen running for cover towards the billing counter.
Anu, surprisingly, remains calm and runs out along with other customers even as the shooters chase Joon and keep firing. The high voltage CCTV footage shows the tragedy which was averted as the shooters fired indiscriminately inside a restaurant that was packed with customers.
After exiting the outlet, Anu is then seen going to the metro station in the area and later catching a train to Azadpur. She changes the train and finally gets off at GTB Nagar metro station. The footage shows her haggling with an autorickshaw driver and asking him to take her to Kashmere Gate ISBT as well, said an inspector.
Meanwhile, the autopsy of Joon was carried out at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi in presence of his brother. The family expressed outrage at the killing and said Joon was no criminal. “He ran an eatery and did some farming in the village. That’s about it. He had no criminal case against him,” a relative said. The family has taken back the body to Chhochhi Village in Jhajjar, Haryana for the last rites.
