16-yr-old alleges rape, consumes bathroom cleaner; one arrested

Ghaziabad: A 16-year-old girl tried to kill herself by consuming bathroom cleaner after she was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the city. Police have arrested the suspect on Saturday.
The girl is undergoing treatment at a hospital and is out of danger, officials said on Sunday. According to police, the girl's brother complained to Wave City police station on June 28, alleging that the accused took his sister to Noida, where he sexually assaulted her.He added that the girl and the accused had been in contact for a while.
“On June 22, he took her to Noida after promising marriage. She returned at 4 am the next morning and confided with the family. We had gone to the accused’s house to confront him, but he refused to meet us," said the brother.
The complaint said that while they were away, she had consumed acid kept at her house in an attempt to commit suicide. “We rushed her to the hospital and is undergoing treatment," he added. Based on the complaint, Wave City police registered an FIR against the accused under sections 363 (kidnapping), 376(rape), 306 (abetment of suicide), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Pocso Act.
"Police teams have been formed, and the accused was nabbed. Further investigation is underway,” said Poonam Mishra, ACP, Wave City.
