2 beers for 37k! Man thrashed at club for refusing to pay bill
Ghaziabad: A 30-year-old man was allegedly thrashed and forced to pay Rs 15,000 last week by staffers of a club in Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) that he was visiting with a woman he met online. Police said they detained three people for questioning on Tuesday and are looking into the woman’s possible involvement.
Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Moradabad, told police in his complaint that he met a woman online and struck up a friendship with her some time ago.
On June 22, she allegedly asked him to meet her at another restaurant in the area, and from there they went to the Heart Beat club.
“Although I did not order anything, the staff served me two glasses of beer when I was checking the menu card,” Kumar said on Tuesday.
When Kumar asked for the bill, he saw that they had charged him Rs 37,000. However, when he tried to dispute it, the waiter and the manager began to thrash him. They refused to let him leave until he had paid them some of the amount, he claimed.
“I took a loan of Rs 10,000 online from a friend and gave them cash of Rs 5,000. They only let me go after I gave them Rs 15,000. Once I came out of the restaurant, I made a call to the police and immediately a police team reached,” he said.
According to ACP (Kavi Nagar) Abhishek Srivastava, they initially received information about a fight and arrested three people from the spot – Mohit, the manager, and two waiters, Gaurav and Vishwas – under Section 151 of the CrPC. They were later released on bail the next day.

An FIR was registered against the restaurant staff and the unidentified woman under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 384 (punishment for extortion) on June 23. The staffers were detained again on Tuesday.
“We have detained the manager and two waiters for questioning again. We are also trying to look for the involvement of the woman as well,” the ACP said.
