Lift has a free fall in Gzb condo, 3 of family injured
Ghaziabad: At least three persons were injured after a lift with six members of a family, including two minors and one senior citizen, inside it had a free fall from the 7th floor at a society on Thursday.
According to police, the incident occurred around 9.30pm at Shipra Krishna Vista in Ahinsa Khand-1, Indirapuram. The family had boarded the lift from the 10th floor to go down to the ground floor.
However, when the lift reached the 7th floor, it experienced a jerk and had a free fall before getting stuck between the second and third floors.

Those stuck in the lift included Ankita Sharma (35), her sister Ankusha Sharma (34), Ankusha’s husband Siddharth Sharma (34), Ankita’s mother-in-law Arti Sharma (60), and Ankusha’s daughter Ishani (5) and son Viraj (4).
“I tried calling my neighbour but due to network issues, it didn’t work out. Then, I pressed the emergency button for 10 minutes after which a security guard came to get us out,” Ankita said.
Ankita suffered injuries to her back left arm, her sister injured her right hand and her mother-in-law’s knees were injured, she said. Ankita added she filed a police complaint.
Meanwhile, a member of the AOA told TOI that the lifts in the society undergo maintenance regularly and they also have annual maintenance certificates. The lift in question was procured from the company City Lifts Mumbai, the AOA member said.

“The lift incident was reported in an extremely exaggerated manner without proper verification of facts from the maintenance team. The incident is regretted and AOA board has initiated an inquiry to probe the issue. All occupants of the lift were evacuated safely by the deployed security guard as per our security protocol,” said Sanjiv Marwaha, general secretary of the AOA.
“Last night, our team went to the society after we received a call from the residents. We are going to question the AOA team as they are responsible for the maintenance of the society and if they have not done the maintenance of the lift in a timely manner, then action will be taken as per norms. However, if it is the company's fault, then we will be taking action against them,” said Swatantra Singh, ACP Indirapuram.
