Man (20) dies after bike crashes into divider, his friend injured
Ghaziabad: A 20-year-old man died while his 21-year-old friend sustained injuries after the bike on which they were travelling back home collided with a divider in Govindpuram.
Abhishek Srivastava, ACP of Kavi Nagar, said the incident happened around 1pm. They were taken to a hospital where Shivam was declared dead on arrival, while Montu, his friend, had serious injuries.
“Initial investigation revealed that Shivam was driving the bike at a high speed and lost control, resulting in a collision with the divider.
Montu was not wearing a helmet at the time. After the collision, Shivam landed on the iron nail above the divider,” he said.
The police have sent Shivam's body for an autopsy, the reports of which are awaited. It is also suspected that the victims were drunk at the time of the accident.
No complaint has been received in the matter so far.
A total of 266 road accidents were reported in Ghaziabad between Jan and March this year, while 230 were recorded last year.
The fatality rate went up by 36% within the said period this year, with 105 reported deaths and 190 injuries.
