E-buses from July 1, govt assures HC as it extends deadline
Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday granted more time to Goa govt to introduce e-buses in Panaji.
“We have assured the high court that e-buses will start in Panaji city from July 1,” advocate general Devidas Pangam told the media on Wednesday.
The introduction of e-buses is expected to persuade more people to use public transportation instead of bringing their own vehicles out on the roads and causing congestion.
The high court is hearing a suo motu public interest petition on the traffic problems in Goa’s capital.
Govt stated that it will replace all diesel buses in Panaji city with electric buses which will also help mitigate pollution.
On July 3, the high court will address other issues regarding traffic in Panaji, especially about cars being parked along the casino entrances up to Divja circle.
