Panaji/Calangute: Just half an hour of yoga each day can significantly enhance fitness and health, said chief minister Pramod Sawant at the 10th International Yoga Day event at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao, on Friday. He said that regular yoga can help manage conditions such as hypertension and diabetes and that pranayama and yoga can improve students’ concentration.

The CM added that including millet in one’s diet can provide numerous health benefits.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on Yoga Day was telecast live from Srinagar.
Sawant joined students in performing various yoga asanas, along with chief secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and sports secretary Swetika Sachan, among others.
Union minister of state for power Shripad Naik said practising yoga every day leads to lifelong good health.
“I give a guarantee that one will never face any medical problems if one practises yoga,” he told participants at an event at Calangute on Friday in the presence of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo. Naik added that people must urge their family members and friends to learn yoga.
Goa governor P S Sreedharan Pillai along with the officials and staff members of Raj Bhavan performed yoga at Old Durbar Hall.

The International Yoga Day has been celebrated every year across the globe on June 21 over the past ten years to create awareness about its potential to improve overall health and well-being. The theme of International Yoga Day 2024 was ‘Yoga for Self and Society’.
The governor performed various forms of yoga such as asanas, pranayama, mudras, and dhyan, guided by Sriraj Shelar, a yoga instructor attached to Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth, Goa.
At Vasco, personnel of the Coast Guard district headquarters along with others from the Coast Guard units of the state conducted yoga sessions and a community interaction programme.
A meditation and yoga camp was also held in collaboration with Brahma Kumaris, Vasco, and NAAD Yoga Center, Panaji, for all Coast Guard personnel and their families.
An event was also held on Coast Guard ships at sea and concluded with water yoga. Special interaction programmes were conducted at Colva, Betul, Velsao, and Bagmalo beaches involving fisherfolk as well. The community interaction programmes focused on, among other aspects, safe fishing practices.
YUVA in association with Bharat Swabhiman, Patanjali, and others organised a yoga workshop at 6am at Shree Mahalaxmi Temple Hall, Panaji.
The programme was attended by more than 140 people from across the city.
Girish Parulekar (Bharat Swabhiman), Sandhya Khanolkar (Patanjali), Shobha Behenji (Brahma Kumaris), Sarvesh Shetye (YUVA president), and Diksha Shetye (YUVA secretary) were among those present at the workshop. It was conducted by Kamlesh Bandekar and his team in line with AYUSH ministry protocols.
