Why should schools open a/cs in Axis Bank, oppn asks govt
Margao: Leader of the opposition Yuri Alemao as well as members of Goa Forward Party (GFP) demanded on Sunday that the circular issued by the education department to schools and institutions directing them to open their bank accounts at the Axis Bank should be immediately withdrawn.
Alemao said this was “direct evidence of BJP govt's agenda of promoting private banks and eventually finishing nationalised banks.” Alleging that the circular was to facilitate the wife of a BJP leader associated with Axis Bank meeting her “marketing target”, he demanded an explanation from the CM citing the reason for selectively choosing Axis Bank.

“He should explain what extra benefits govt and all those schools and institutions will get by opening their accounts in Axis Bank as compared to other banks,” Alemao said.
GFP general secretary, Durgadas Kamat said that the govt cannot direct schools and other institutions to open bank accounts in a particular bank.
Alemao reasoned that as all the banks, especially the nationalised banks, have online transaction facilities, the disbursal of salaries under the "Mukhyamantri Guru Dakshina Yojana" can be implemented through any of those banks, therefore, why should one choose Axis Bank accounts only.
He further warned the director of education not to come under pressure from govt and issue circulars promoting private sector banks. “He will be responsible if some fraud takes place in the banks. The choice of selecting bank accounts should be left to respective schools and institutions,”Alemao said.
