Woman steals family gold, pledges it & splurges money

Vishaka Chandravardan Mhamal, a 25-year-old woman from Agasaim, committed theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh from her relative. She deposited the stolen ornaments with finance companies and cooperative banks to obtain a Rs 10 lakh loan. The complainant, Nikita Dyaneshwar Mhamal, discovered the missing keys and broken locker, leading to the discovery of the theft. The police arrested Vishaka within 3 hours of filing the FIR. All the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from the financial companies and cooperative banks.

PANAJI: Vishaka Chandravardan Mhamal, a 25-year-old woman l from Agasaim committed theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh from her relative and deposited it with finance companies and cooperative banks to obtain a Rs10 lakh loan.
“After registration of a first information report (FIR) in the theft case Agasaim police arrested Vishaka within 3 hours,” PI Agasaim Vikram Naik said.

The accused committed the theft nearly four ago after opening a cupboard locker. Naik said that Vishaka knew where the key of the cupboard was kept and waited till no one was home to commit the theft. “After committing theft she misplaced the key of the cupboard,” Naik said.
Naik added that the complainant, Nikita Dyaneshwar Mhamal decided to open the locker to remove the ornaments when she found the keys missing. “The complainant broke open the locker and found that gold ornaments were missing from the cupboard. When she inquired with her family members, they all denied committing the crime,” Naik said.
Naik said that when the complainant wanted to lodge a complaint, the accused and her family stopped her. “The accused person threatened the complainant with dire consequences that if she files a police complaint, she will kill her,” Naik said.
When the gold wasn’t returned, the complainant lodged the complaint at Agasaim police station on Tuesday. Naik said that after interrogating the family, Vishaka confessed and informed the police that she had deposited the gold ornaments at various finance companies and cooperative banks to secure a loan.
“Vishaka spent the entire amount obtained through the loan. We have recovered all the gold ornaments from the financial companies and cooperative banks,” Naik said.
