Besides, four more footbridges have been planned on key busy stretches in the city, including Raheja Mall on Sohna Road, near Fortis Hospital, Sheetla Mata temple and Sector 14 market.
The estimated cost for these four footbridges is Rs 16.4 crore and the project will take 18 months to complete after the work starts. Tenders for the project have been floated and the process is expected to be completed in the next three months.
Officials said the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road foot overbridge is important considering the number of factory workers who use the stretch, along with employees in other establishments in Udyog Vihar and residents from Sukhrali, Carterpuri, and Mullahera. The GMDA has been planning on this project since 2021, but could not decide upon the model of construction.

“We have engaged an agency for preparing the DPR that will include the structural design, safety measures and impact on the traffic flow. The footbridge will provide a safer crossing point for many workers and residents who use this road daily. Once the DPR is completed and approved, we will float the tender,” a senior GMDA official said.
