After 11 years, six Assam cops get life for beating man to death

Six police personnel in Assam were sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally beating Ajit Sonowal in Sadiya. The autopsy report revealed that Ajit's death resulted from peritonitis due to the blunt force rupture of the small intestine.

GUWAHATI: A court in Assam sentenced six police personnel to rigorous life imprisonment on Wednesday for brutally beating to death a man in a market at Sadiya in Tinsukia district 11 years ago.
The convicted cops - Bishal Boro, Girin Saikia, Ananda Karmakar, Ananta Duwara, Bharat Gogoi, and Utpal Kakaty - were found guilty of assaulting Ajit Sonowal on Oct 7, 2013, with rifle butts, lathis, kicks, and blows.

Ajit died of his wounds later. The autopsy report confirmed that his death was due to peritonitis caused by the ante-mortem rupture of the small intestine, with all wou-nds inflicted by blunt force.
