Faizan death: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urges WB CM Mamata Banerjee to hand over case to CBI
GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has written to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, requesting her to hand over the death case of IIT-Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed to the CBI for a “transparent and fair investigation”.
The development comes three days after Faizan’s mother Rehana, who insisted that her son’s death was a case of murder and not suicide, sought CM Sarma’s intervention for justice.

Faizan (23), a third-year mechanical engineering student at the prestigious IIT-Kharagpur hailing from Assam’s Tinsukia district, was found dead in his hostel room on October 14, 2022 under mysterious circumstances. The initial probe by the authorities had suggested that Faizan had died by suicide.
In May last year, the Calcutta High Court had ordered the exhumation of Faizan’s body and a second post mortem examination. Accordingly, the body was exhumed on May 23 last year from a burial ground in Dibrugarh.
