Silchar: A 28-year-old man and his six-month-old son died and seven other family members sustained critical injuries at Chalitakandi in Udharband circle of Cachar district on Tuesday after a wall of their house collapsed due to heavy rainfall and storm, reports BB Goswami.
According to reports, the incident happened around 6:30am when Azir Uddin, 28, and his son, Hashib Uddin, were still asleep.
The mud wall of the house, which had been weakened by the heavy rainfall and storm, suddenly gave way, burying the duo under the mud and debris.
Seven other family members, including Azir’s wife Kalpana Begum (24), their daughter Mahima Begum, Azir’s brothers Shajan Uddin (26) and Rahim Uddin (24), Shajan’s wife Jahanara Begum (24), Rahim’s wife Mehbooba Begum (22), and Shajan’s daughter Sadiya Akhtar (1) suffered injuries in the incident. They were initially taken to Udharbond primary health centre but were later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) due to the severity of their conditions.
