GUWAHATI: A huge cache of
arms, ammunition, explosives and warlike stores were recovered by a joint team of state and central security forces from different locations in Imphal East and Thoubal districts over the past 24 hours.
Manipur Police stated the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, leading the combined team to conduct thorough searches and establish area domination in the fringe and vulnerable regions of both the hill and valley districts.
During the search operations in Thoubal, the joint team seized an assortment of weapons and explosives, including “one 12-bore single barrel, one 12-bore bolt action rifle, one SMG with magazine, one revolver, two 2-inch mortar shells, two 81-mortar shells, two no. 36-HE hand grenade, two Chinese grenades, one IED, two smoke grenades, two smoke shells, one motorola handheld set, one 7.62 SLR magazine and one assault rifle magazine.”
Simultaneously, security forces also carried out search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East district.
The exercise yielded additional weapons and equipment, such as “one local made single barrel, one countrymade 9mm pistol with one magazine, one countrymade 7.65mm pistol with one magazine, one broken Pompi, three HE-36 hand grenades without detonators, 10 live round ammunition and a walkie-talkie set.” Authorities suspect that the recovered weapons and warlike stores were intentionally hidden by armed miscreants in these areas.
