Top GST official held in Guwahati for ‘graft’

Guwahati: CBI has taken into custody an assistant commissioner of CGST, GST Commissionerate here for allegedly demanding and receiving an illegal gratification amounting to Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
CBI has registered a case against the accused based on a complaint.
According to a govt statement, the complainant alleged that he had received demand and show-cause notices and was summoned multiple times to the CGST office by the accused.

The complainant maintained that he had completed civil works and paid all the necessary taxes.
“During a visit to the CGST office to inquire about the matter, the complainant alleged that the assistant commissioner demanded Rs 2 lakh to issue favourable orders. After negotiations, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 50,000 as a bribe,” the statement said. tnn
