BJP protests milk price hike
Belagavi: BJP activists staged a protest condemning the rise in milk prices, in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Monday. The protesters carried milk cans on their shoulders and shouted slogans against the state government. Subhash Patil, BJP president of rural district unit alleged that the state govt without rushing to help in times of trouble is working as an anti-farmer.
The govt has not given milk subsidies to farmers from past 8 months. Even the state's share is not being given under Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Geeta Sutar, president of the party's city unit, said the Congress had promised to help people during LS elections. “However, now the prices of essential items have increased and people are suffering. This govt should reduce the prices of essential items, failing which it should quit power,” she added. Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the govt through the DC. BJP workers were present.
Appoint a CM and four DyCMs for SVS: Activist
Belagavi: RTI activist Bhimappa Gadad urged chief minister Siddaramaiah through a letter to abolish deputy chief minister’s (DyCM) post or appoint a CM and 4 deputy CMs for Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) of Belagavi to facilitate North Karnataka. Speaking at a press conference at Kannada Sahitya Bhavan on Monday, Gadad said he planned to file a public interest litigation (PIL) in the high court regarding the recognition of the post of deputy CM. He said he has written to the CM and 4 senior ministers seeking clarification on whether the govt is ruling according to the constitution or not.
Vijayapura DC, staff members plant splings
Vijayapura: Cleanliness initiatives should become part of our lives instead of restricting them to a particular day, said Vijayapura deputy commissioner T Bhoobalan. Inaugurating the Revenue Day event organised by the district administration and revenue department employees’ association here on Monday, Bhoobalan instructed the officials concerned to plant saplings at all empty spaces in all offices across the district. “There is a need of coordination between forest and other departments in this regard,” he added. He took part in cleanliness drive on DC’s office premises and planted 500 saplings at the Election Warehouse on ZP Road. Officials and revenue employee association office bearers were present on the occasion.
Bidar farmer gets cattle shed under MGNREGA
Kalaburagi: A farmer in Bidar district constructed a cattle shed for Rs 57,000 under the MGNREGA scheme. Earlier, he used to tie his buffaloes in the open. The new shed has led his cattle to produce more milk. Meet farmer Kushalrao Ghaleppa, a resident of Gumma village in Bidar district, who has spent his money along with Rs 57,000 under the MGNREGA scheme to construct a shed for his buffaloes. He runs a milk dairy from his shed now. Speaking to TOI, Kushalrao said, right now, he has six buffaloes that produce 40 litres of milk per day and he sells it, earning Rs 60,000 monthly, of which he spends Rs 12,000 for fodder. He said he has been involved in dairy farming along and agriculture for the past 15 years. He said he owns four acres of land where he grows fodder for cattle on one acre. Speaking to TOI, Bidar taluk panchayat executive officer Kiran Patil said farmers can also build cattle sheds, chicken sheds and farm ponds to produce earthworm compost in their agricultural lands.
