KOLAR: Opposition leader R Ashoka of BJP sensationally claimed chief minister Siddaramaiah orchestrated the defeat of DK Suresh, brother of deputy CM, DK Shivakumar, in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Suresh, incumbent Bangalore Rural MP, was defeated by rookie Dr CN Manjunath, son-in-law of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.
Speaking to reporters Friday, Ashoka said Siddaramaiah engineered Suresh’s defeat to prevent Shivakumar from gaining “more influence” within Congress and threatening his own position as chief minister of the state.

Ashoka cited this as an example of Siddaramaiah’s willingness to undermine his own party functionaries for political gain. He also referred to a similar instance in the past, where Siddaramaiah allegedly worked against then Congress state president G Parameshawara, resulting in his loss from the Koratagere constituency in the 2013 assembly elections.
