HYDERABAD: A lift at Hotel Kinnera Grand in Nagole collapsed on Sunday leaving eight persons in it injured. The victims boarded the lift at the fourth floor and came down. The lift went out of control and collapsed, coming to a halt in the second cellar.
Nagole police registered a case against the hotel management and started investigating. The injured persons were also rushed to a nearby private hospital and they are said to be out of danger.

SHO Nagole. P.Parashu Ram told TOI that they suspect the mishap occurred due to a glitch in the lift’s gearbox. “ Details of the lift’s maintenance and other safety aspects that are supposed to be in place, are being verified. Based on the findings, the investigation will proceed,” he added.
Police said the victims, all in their early 30s, had come to the hotel to attend their friend’s engagement ceremony. Around 2.30, while leaving the hotel, they took the lift in the fourth floor where the banquet hall was located.
The lift travelled smooth till the second floor and it experienced a sudden jolt and came down and landed in the G-2 cellar. Hearing a loud thud, other customers and hotel staff rushed to their rescue, brought them out and rushed them to hospital.
The hotel management claimed that the incident occurred due to being overweight in the lift. But according to the specifications, the lift can carry 10 persons or 680 kgs.
The victims claimed that there were only eight persons in the lift and that it was poor quality of the lift and also maintenance that resulted in the incident.
“ If the lift was overweight, it should have not started or given some indication of being overweight. But nothing of that sort happened here,” said one of the injured persons.
