Cyberabad Traffic police play ‘Tom & Jerry’ with wrong-way drivers
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police have turned to humour with a serious twist to tackle the menace of wrong-way driving, using memes and viral videos on their X platform to drive home their message. One meme video, featuring scenes reminiscent of popular movies, bluntly declares, “The Tom and Jerry game has begun!” This creative approach aims to remind motorists of the dire consequences of reckless driving.

Highlighting their zero-tolerance policy, the police showcased videos illustrating accidents caused by wrong-way driving.
Over the past month, Cyberabad police have filed 150 criminal cases against offenders, seizing 800 vehicles, predominantly two-wheelers. On Wednesday, 21 cases were registered in a single day, while 10 cases were registered on Tuesday.
While the initiative has garnered praise for raising awareness, critics emphasise the need for sustained enforcement. “All this hungama only lasts during the campaigns. Many violators are seen getting away right under the nose of officers,” an X user posted in reply to the meme video. Others echoed the sentiment, urging more frequent drives in the city.
“Please conduct drives at BHEL, Jyothi Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Beeramguda and RC Puram. Your efforts will be appreciated, more” another X user posted. There is also a call for increased patrols and safer U-turns to curb incidents further. For nearly four years, Cyberabad police have used memes effectively to promote road safety, sparking discussions among residents and commuters alike.
