Landslides snap surface communication in several Arunachal Pradesh districts
ITANAGAR: Continuous rainfall has led to landslides in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, disrupting surface communication, as reported by officials on Saturday.
The strategic Aalo-Mechukha road, connecting West Siang district to Shi-Yomi district, has been damaged between Roing and Pene villages due to the incessant downpour.
Jumi Ete, the District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) of Shi-Yomi, confirmed that landslides have occurred at multiple locations in the region.

The Aalo-Mechuka road is strategically important for Army personnel deployed in Shi-Yomi district, she said.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed personnel and equipment to clear the affected road. Another official stated that the blockade might be cleared by Saturday evening for light motor vehicles, provided the weather conditions remain favorable.
In addition to the Aalo-Mechukha road, the Pasighat-Pangin-Aalo road in Siang district has also suffered damage near Tarak village, resulting in many vehicles being stranded.
Meanwhile, in the capital city of Itanagar, the district administration conducted an eviction drive to remove illegal structures along National Highway-415, as reported by the official.
The temporary structures were demolished as they were choking drains, he added.
