Kota: A 32-year-old man drowned during a picnic with
friends at an anicut near Chhataneshwar Mahadev temple in Ranpur police station limits in Kota city Sunday afternoon. A rescue operation was launched but had to be halted due to darkness and resumed Monday morning, when his body was recovered.
Dharmendra Pradhan, a native of Fatehpur district in Uttar Pradesh, was working as a labourer at a factory in Cable Nagar, under Ranpur police jurisdiction.
He had gone for a picnic with 3-4 friends after work on Sunday.
SHO of Ranpur police station, Bhanwar Singh, said, “While the friends were bathing in the anicut near the temple, Dharmendra reportedly went into deep water and drowned.”
His friends shouted for help and tried to rescue him, but were unsuccessful. Upon being informed of the incident, police and divers from Kota Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot.
Following his family’s arrival from Uttar Pradesh, the body was placed in the mortuary at New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) for postmortem, the SHO said. TNN
