After 15 auctions, mines dept focuses on exploration
Jaipur: After auctioning 15 blocks in the current financial year, the mines department of the state is planning to expedite exploration of minerals in coordination with central agencies.
In the recently held joint group meeting of Central and state agencies, mines secretary Anandhi said reports made by the Geological Survey of India and Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd on various mineral-bearing blocks would be reviewed to prepare a list of mines that can be auctioned.

While recently the department was able to offer a gold mine block through auctions, another one in Banswara is set to be announced. Besides, the process for three other blocks is on the last leg, which could be announced in July, taking the total auctions to 19 this year so far.
In fact, auctions of mineral resources have picked up pace in the past couple of years. In 2021-22, the department auctioned seven mining leases, which increased to eight, including composite and mining leases in 2022-23.
But during the last financial year, the auctions shot up to 31. Of the 15 leases this year, limestone mines account for seven, two for gold, one base metal, one siliceous, and four iron ore blocks. Additionally, the auction for four limestone blocks will be completed by July 7, as per a department statement.
Now, the focus is on conducting more exploration activities through the National Mineral Exploration Trust to further expedite mineral discovery.
