Probe ordered into drowning of student in nullah in Jodhpur
Jodhpur: The district administration on Friday ordered an inquiry into the drowning of a student in an under-construction nullah in Jodhpur on Thursday after the first rain lashed the city.
The administration also directed the civic bodies to take adequate safety measures at their respective construction sites before the monsoon begins on full swing.

“An inquiry committee has been formed. Action will be taken against whosoever is found delinquent for this tragic incident. Criminal action will also be taken if criminal negligence is found behind this accident,” said district collector Gaurav Agarwal about the death of Tagaram, a second-year undergraduate student from Shergarh.
On Thursday evening, Tagaram stepped into a water-filed under-construction nullah on Air Port Road and drowned. Water was filled in the nullah up to the road level.
A demonstration staged by Tagaram’s family and relatives outside the morgue of a hospital in the city ended on Friday following the administration’s assurances that their demands would be considered. The family agreed to accept the body after the assurances.
Bhopalgarh MLA Geeta Barwar, who attended this demonstration, said the protest was called off after the administration agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 25 lakh, a job to the victim’s next of kin, and action against the guilty.
