Four cases lodged under new criminal laws in city
Kanpur: Under the new laws implemented from July 1, in a very first case registered at the Kalyanpur police station of Commissionerate, a man was arrested for molesting women in public. A total of three other cases have also been registered at four police stations under the provisions of the new criminal laws. The first case has been registered at Kalyanpur police station under section 79/296 of the Indian Judicial Code against Rajkumar of Ashok Nagar Kalyanpur.

On the basis of the notification issued in the official Gazette by the Government of India, in place of the old codes-- Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act-- new laws Indian Justice Code 2023, Indian Civil Defence Code 2023 and Indian Evidence Act 2023 have been implemented in country.
Under the new codes,a total of four cases have been registered, one each in Kalyanpur, Chaubepur, Jajmau and Bilhaur police stations respectively. But the first case was registered at Kalyanpur police station under section 79/296 of the Indian Judicial Code. Similarly, at Chaubeypur, a case under section 125/281, at Jajmau and Bilhaur police station cases were lodged under sections 115 (2), 333 and under 103 (1) respectively.
Meanwhile, to create awareness about the three new laws a seminar was organized here where a detailed information was given to the people of the city, officer-bearers of the trade association, doctors, as well as all the branch in-charge and employees of the police department and senior police officers regarding the new laws. Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Vipin Kumar Mishra and Additional Commissioner of Police, Law and Order Harish Chander and other officers and a large number of media were present on the occasion.
