KANPUR: A constable attempted suicide by shooting himself with a licensed pistol while on duty at Hasanganj police station in Unnao on Tuesday morning.
Constable Devansh Tewatiya, who was deputed as a 'Munshi' at Hasanganj police station, fired at himself with a licensed pistol, resulting in injuries on Tuesday morning, according to the police. He was shifted to the nearby Hasanganj Community Health Center, from where he was referred to the Trauma Center in Lucknow, they further stated.
Devansh, the son of Meghraj and originally a native of Bulandshahr, was posted as a 'Munshi' at the Hasanganj Kotwali police station.

Due to his Tuesday morning shift, he arrived for duty. If sources are to be believed, during this time, Devansh spoke to someone on the phone. After that, he shot himself in the temple with a pistol.
Chaos prevailed inside the police station after the incident. After informing the senior authorities, he was admitted to the Hasanganj Community Health Center in a critical condition.
From there, he was referred to the Lucknow Trauma Center.
Senior officials reached the police station and are investigating the matter by scanning the CCTV footage.
The Additional superintendent of police in Unnao, Akhilesh Singh, said, "We are trying to find out the reason for the incident. The constable is being treated at the Lucknow Trauma Center. Further investigations are ongoing."
