Police outpost guarding skeleton for past 45 months
Kanpur: Apart from securing evidences, stolen and seized articles, the ‘maalkhana’ of Bhitargaon police outpost of Kanpur has been also guarding a human skeleton for last 45 months waiting for its DNA sampling reports. The samples were sent to lab in 2020.
The skeleton was found hanging from a branch of a tree near the fields of a farmer in Behta Buzurg village of Bhitargaon town on Sept 30, 2020.
It had a trouser and shirt on it and a pair of blue slippers of nine size were lying under the tree from which it was hanging. As the skeleton was about 20-25 days old, it couldn’t be identified and no one came to claim the remains either. The police had also scanned the list of cases of missing persons registered in nearby police stations, but in vain.
An SI, who had then served at the police outpost, said that after the ‘Panchnama’, the skeleton was taken to the mortuary for post-mortem, where a sample was procured and sent to the Forensic Science Department Laboratory, Jhansi for DNA sampling. After that police were told to keep the skeleton safe until the test report comes, said the official adding that, “On asking the mortuary to keep the skeleton, they refused.” Then a wooden coffin was prepared to keep the skeleton secured in a room of Bhitargaon police outpost, and since then the police has been guarding that coffin. tnn
