KANPUR: Reacting to the proposal mooted by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to name Samajwadi Party's Faizabad (Ayodhya) MP Awadhesh Prasad as opposition's candidate for the post of deputy speaker in the Lok Sabha, SP president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that he would go by what the INDIA bloc partners decide on the issue.
Prasad (78) had won from the unreserved seat of Faizabad.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party, Akhilesh said that it has been playing with reservation.
"Ever since the BJP govt came to power, every decision of theirs is against the basic spirit of reservation. Our Constitution says that everyone should be respected according to the population by conducting caste census. This is what Baba Saheb, Lohia ji and Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) wanted," he told reporters during his visit to Etawah to attend the wedding ceremony of Aryan Yadav, the grandson of Dibiyapur MLA Pradeep Yadav.
The SP chief said that the "PDA family" was facing discrimination. "BJP does not want that those from the Bahujan community, backward classes, Dalits and tribals, should be given a chance to move forward," he said.
"The first question is that those expressing concern today where were they when vice-chancellors were posted from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. People from the PDA family were not seen anywhere in it. People of PDA family were not taken care of at Jawaharlal Nehru University. If you look at the figures, the govt has played with reservation," he said.
"BJP is also scared of the people of the country. The people of Uttar Pradesh voted for PDA to save the Constitution," he said.
