KOTTAYAM: CPI state secretary Benoy Viswam has said that the Left front should admit its flaws once they are realised and correct them after confessing about them before people. He was inaugurating the 106th birth anniversary and remembrance meet of K R Gouri, one of the prominent women leaders of the Left movement, at YMCA in Alappuzha on Tuesday.

Viswam said the Left front, which espouses self-introspection, should always be ready to face criticism.
"People are bigger than leaders, authorities and committees. Admitting to people about wrongdoings and trying to correct them is the real Leftist ideology," he said.
The 'hard talk' by the CPI state secretary comes against the backdrop of CPM district committees - one after another - criticising the party leadership, especially chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, for LDF's Lok Sabha election rout.
Criticisms are unavoidable in politics: CPI state secretary
However, top CPM leaders have refuse to admit the leadership’s flaws even while confessing that their poll calculations had gone terribly wrong. CPI state secretary Benoy Viswam said that the Left should never shy away from making corrections.
Maintaining that criticisms are unavoidable in politics, Viswam said one should also think about those at the receiving end of criticisms while criticising.

“To believe that we are perfect and everyone else is wrong is not part of communist criticism. While criticising, Communists should have a comprehensive understanding of the history, ideology and individuality of those on the other side. Language is impor-tant. Time has come to think about the communist approach in usage of words,” he said.
Viswam said the Left front should also introspect if its foundations had been shaken. “If not now, when will this question be raised? The values of Communists are truthfulness, justice, and thinking along with people. Experience teaches us that these values are necessary. People have expressed their views. Convictions that were considered firm, irrespective of what others say, have been shaken now,” he said.
He said the Left front should learn lessons in the special circumstances of the state. “Fruits of its efforts can be seen in the lives of people here. The Left front is capable of overcoming defeats,” he said.
