KOCHI: Directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) intercepted two passengers of Tanzanian nationality who arrived at Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) and seized cocaine worth crores from one among them.
The passengers, one of them a woman, had arrived from Ethiopia via Doha at Kochi. According to sources, around 100 capsules were recovered from the male passenger and on testing all were positive for cocaine.
As much as 1,945g of cocaine worth Rs 19 crore was seized, sources said.
The male passenger, Omari Athumani Jongo, was arrested on Thursday. He was produced before JFCM Angamaly and remanded to Aluva sub-jail.
Passengers were subjected to x-ray screening which showed positive for foreign bodies inside their stomach. They were then admitted to Apollo Adlux Hospital for extraction, sources said.
The woman passenger is still admitted at the hospital and recovery proceedings are ongoing, said an official source.
