Heavy rain alert in Kerala: NDRF teams to be deployed in 9 districts
KOCHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and strong winds in the state until Monday. Multiple districts in central and northern Kerala are on high alert due to the forecasted severe weather conditions.
In response to these alerts, the state govt has requested the deployment of NDRF teams across nine districts: Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kollam, Kozhikode, Thrissur, and Wayanad.

The teams are equipped with resources for flood rescue, collapsed structure search & rescue, and communication gear, including vehicle-mounted quick-deployment antennas and personal protective equipment.
Continuous monitoring of the situation is being carried out from the 24x7 control room in Arakkonam, in coordination with Kerala's emergency operations control room. A trough at mean sea level along the Karnataka and Kerala coasts is contributing to the rainfall activity.
According to recorded rainfall data from Thursday morning, Thiruvananthapuram airport received 8cm of rainfall, Kollam received 7cm, and Thiruvananthapuram city, along with Chavara received 6cm. Vellayani, Venkurinji, and Panniyoor recorded 5cm of rainfall each.
