Thrissur: Kerala Agricultural University’s (KAU) budget for 2024-25 has estimated a deficit of Rs 249.09 crore with revenue pegged at Rs 629.21 crore and expenditure at Rs 878.30 crore.
A statement issued by the university on Monday claimed that KAU expected to overcome this deficit by launching more revenue-generation programmes. However, when contacted KAU sources conceded that revenue-generation programmes can be implemented only incrementally.
The expectation for the first year is about Rs 15-20 crore, far below the actual deficit.
One of the revenue-generation programmes envisaged is to set up a sales-cum-exhibition and expo centre at KAU headquarters in Vellanikkara. The sources said the university expected to generate Rs 10.93 crore from this.
